Benchmark Specific Resources:

I can …

1.    Select and calibrate different measurement instruments most commonly used in basic chemistry investigations (pH paper or meter, electronic balance, triple beam balance, meter stick, graduated cylinder, beaker, stopwatch, thermometer graduated cylinder, buret, pipette).

        Reading a Ruler

2.    Visualize and estimate the physical quantity represented by the square or cubic Kilometer, the square or cubic meter, the square or cubic centimeter, the square or cubic millimeter, the liter, the milliliter, the meter, the centimeter, the Kilogram, the gram and the milligram.

3.    Use the tools of measurement appropriately to determine length, mass, volume, density, temperature and pH (balance, meter stick, graduated cylinder, beaker, stopwatch, thermometer, pH meter, pH paper).

            See links under objective 1.

4.    Create a table from scratch showing the relationships between the following eleven metric prefixes (Giga-unit, Mega-unit, Kilo-unit, Hecto- unit, Deka- unit, unit, deci- unit, centi- unit, milli- unit, micro- unit, nano- unit). (Names, abbreviations, fractions, decimals and scientific notation will be included.)
